Bandwidth is a limited, and expensive resource. Spam annoys customers, and
costs you money. The solutions that have been available until now have been largely
unsatisfactory. Now fitMail with patent-pending
Spamfreezer Technology
can "freeze" spam before it stresses your bandwidth and your
bottom line. Your customers will love spam-free mailboxes. You will love the decrease
in needed bandwidth -- and the resulting increased profitability.

Spamfreezer Technology
Spamfreezer Technology (“SFT”)
performs several critical steps to prevent spam from reaching the user’s POP3 access Inbox. As an initial
part of the process, SFT uses some of the technology, block lists and spam identification rules, used by other
mail server software. SFT, however, goes beyond these initial steps to completely block spam from reaching the
user’s inbox. In addition, SFT puts the user, rather than the sender, in control of the process.
How It Works
- SFT uses a multi-step process to identify the sender as being legitimate, including
its own
DNS IP-blocking server.
- SFT has built in capabilities to
scan every message as it is received for virus and malicious content.
- SFT checks against a
country safe list, which is managed by the user.
- SFT checks
the sender’s address against the recipient’s email address
safe list, which is managed by the user.
- SFT uses a patent-pending technology to detect spam
or spoof probability.
- If all previous processes cannot confirm that the message is spam or not, then
the sender’s message is placed in the "freezer" and a notification message is
sent to the recipient for verification.
- If the user cannot determine whether the message is genuine by the sender's e-mail address
and subject line, the user can log into his/her web-based account and view
the original message. The system will locate and display the original message. However,
it will not display attachments or anything that may appear to be likely evidence
of a virus.
- If the user decides that this is spam, he/she may simply deletes the notification
message from their Inbox.
- If the user identifies the message as being acceptable, he/she needs to follow the
simply instructions in the notification e-mail or manually add the sender's email to their
safe list.

Unsatisfactory Solutions
Until now, protecting a user against unsolicited e-mail (“spam”) has
taken two forms:
- Desktop Spam Filtering Software
Spam filtering software protects users by running on their own computers. This software
generally integrates with Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express, among others. The
software monitors the Inbox after the message is received and analytically decides
whether the message received appears to be spam. If the decision is positive the
message is moved to a designated spam folder, leaving only those messages in the
Inbox folder that are apparently not spam. While this method is fairly simple for
the user to install and operate, it does not eliminate spam. The user is still receiving
all messages, including spam, and thereby using unnecessary bandwidth.
Although spam filtering software may reduce the user’s frustration with sorting
through spam e-mail, but there are still problems. The software cannot detect a
spam message with 100% certainty, so some spam will get into the user's in-box.
In addition, important messages can end up in the spambox folder by accident. Even
if the user is expecting a particular message, it may be necessary to search hundreds,
if not thousands, of messages to locate a message that was incorrectly identified
as "spam." Although this is very inconvenient, the real danger lies in
having an important message the user was not expecting handled as spam.
This filtering method is not cost affective in for the user’s time or the
ISP’s money. Spam still reaches the mailbox, placing a burden on the mail
server(s), which translates to excessive bandwidth usage.
-
Challenge/Response Software
Although Challenge/Response software provides a better solution to preventing spam,
it is not 100% reliable. The principal is based on the idea that all spam is sent
by bulk e-mail sending software, which is not totally accurate.
In addition to allowing spam to soak up bandwidth and annoy users, it has two principal
flaws.
- It does not discriminate between spammers and honest companies who are communicating
with the user by the user's permission. Because of this error, it blocks honest
advertising and defeats a widely used Internet marketing tool.
- It allows the sender to determine whether the message is spam and should be sent
to the user’s Inbox or not.
