Why eliminating spam benefits everyone! Part 2
The first and most common are filters. Just about every authority you speak to will tell you that they do not work. So the reliability to prevent spam is useless. If in your decision making process, you see the word FILTER as the product’s sole mechanism then look elsewhere. No software can eliminate spam by filtering messages.

A Spam BLOCKER comes in a variety of packages. It depends on who you talk to and what the product is. In the case of desktop programs or add-ins that works with your email client are, in my opinion, the worst. In both cases, these programs were primarily designed to block spam after it reach your machine when the user’s ISP provides little or no filtering.

If you are like many who receive upwards in the hundreds of spam messages a day, the [so called] blocking software truly does no blocking at all. You would still receive the hundreds of spam messages a day. The software would make every attempt to identify a spam message and simply place it in another folder. If the software should incorrectly identify a valid message you can shuffle through the hundreds [or thousands] of messages in the spam folder. You not only paid good money for this program but now it costs you valued time. Technically, blocking in this case is just another term for filtering.

This type of software does nothing to assist the ISP in reducing bandwidth, which should be a primary concern to all software vendors. Filter software vendors only see a money-making market.

In the next part of this series, I will compare desktop software to email service providers.
